"But... animals were put on Earth to be eaten! If they don't get hunted they will overpopulate and--"
Ok, I've heard this one too much. God put animals on Earth first, then created humans (oh God, why??) to name and watch over them. if overpopulation is what you're worried about then why are there farms designed for the surplus production of 'food animals" like cows, chickens, and sheep? They take up space, water, grain, and money; not to mention not every one makes it on a dinner plate. Lots of them die while trying to grow up, give birth, during shipping, and for those that get slaughtered some of the meat goes bad before it is purchased.
Every living creature wants to thrive, not get murdered or tortured. In my book, this principle encompasses not only wild game but dogs, cats, fowl, siblings- you name it. Just like I wouldn't eat my chubby cat, I refuse to eat a plumped-up piggy. Both are considered loving pets, likewise, both are considered food depending on where you live. Each animal has intelligence and desire to grow up to his/her full potential. Pigs are scientifically proven to have the brain equivalent to a dog; they even recognize familiar faces and react to them accordingly with tail wiggles, squeals, and kisses! *snort snort*
Before you buy that delicious- not gonna lie here- bacon, think about what you are doing. No, don't over-think it. WHAT ARE YOU REALLY DOING WITH THAT MONEY BUYING THE BACON? You are supporting the company that kills these smart fellas by giving them your money. This is like saying "here, I really like your 'product' so I'm giving you money to raise even MORE pigs to kill." A good first step for animal lovers to take is to simply stop buying so many products from companies who hurt animals.
I challenge YOU to save your weekly meat allowance at least once and use it to visit a farm sanctuary or local farm where you can see for yourself how neat these animals you eat really are. Do you really believe they want to be killed and eaten?
