Hey there!

I'm a vegan teen on a mission to share the world in harmony with animals while balancing normal, stressful high school life. My posts will prove to anyone how changing simple little daily things can have a big impact on your community and family! I'm not a crazy little ritzy hippy chick trying to convert everyone reading this to become a salad nibbler that will live forever- no. Instead I bring you neat ideas, recipes, and challenges. I want to hear what you think too! Leave comments and share the word!

A teaspoon of this can make oranges jealous

It's the end of July and it seems EVERYONE is catching some sort of cold virus. School hasn't even started yet-- how can this fabulous mix of swollen sore throat, train-wreck body aches, and runny noses be on the rise so soon? Well I'm not one to skip work on sick leave so today I stopped at my local health food store to pick up a jar of none other than...

Buffered Vitamin C Powder! Why? It's a wonder supplement.

How to take Vitamin C Powder

I escaped last year's strain of flu without a flu shot just by following this prescription most doctors won't tell you...but I will!
When your cold/flu symptoms start to appear
  1. take one level teaspoon of vitamin C powder and stir it into 8 oz [a small glass] of sweet juice.
  2. Repeat this every hour for four hours ONCE daily until your cold symptoms go away.

When your symptoms are gone, take a teaspoon of the powder once or twice a day until you start to get, well, gassy. Reduce the dose, and discontinue taking it. The idea is to taper yourself off of it and let your body adjust. That's all there is to it!

Aside from helping you feel better fast, Vitamin C powder
  • is free of animal byproducts
  • has no hidden chemicals
  • may help prevent cancer
  • prevents heart disease
  • best of all- it doesn't hurt a bit, promise:)

Why it works
Vitamin C powder is NOT the same as the flavored fizzing drink vitamin mixes that fly off Walgreens shelves in the fall. It's a concentrate of around 5000 mg ascorbic acid crystals per teaspoon- the strong version of what gives citrus it's "zing". Unless the jar is pre-blended with something like calcium to 'buffer' it, this stuff is super sour! So pucker up baby;)

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) doesn't kill a cold virus, but lowers histamine levels in the blood. Simply put, a good strong dose of Vitamin C will make your body's natural response to germs (*cough* *sniff*  *groan*) ease up a bit. Although most of our daily dose of 'C' comes from fresh citrus fruits and bright colored veggies, a sick body requires much much more; like 100 X's more than the recommended daily intake of just 65 mg!

Tip: You can find Vitamin C powder at health food stores like Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and some pharmacies. It cost me about $30 for a 50 teaspoon supply. Trust me- that's a lot of good for your money!

Don't take my word for it- listen to what Dr. Michael Weiner, Ph.D (posted thanks to ModernAmericanThinkr) has to say about it in this video. I heard a clip similar to this on my dad's talkshow radio station and tested it for myself.

*Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor so I can not prescribe any medication, nor am I responsible for reactions/allergies of those who choose to follow this advice. I'm only sharing what has worked well for me and advised by many holistic practitioners.

    Dangit jim, i'm a

Vegan gal (obsessed with Star Trek- in case you haven't bothered to glimpse at the screen yet) working through High School and enjoying the roller coaster ride of life. Sure, it's hard living in a small southern city that serves mac & cheese as the only vegetable on the menu. But I'm making it work and I want to help others enjoy the compassionate version of the world too.
